New alarm

yeah, I've self fitted them to my two previous golfs, Audi coupe and two corrados. never had a single fault. Wouldn't consider anything else!

Insurance companies will ask for a certificate of fitting by an approved monkey (not vag) if you want them to give a discount on yer insurance. Alarm is still a good thing to have even if fitted yerself.

Any installer can issue a certificate once an 'inspection fee' has been paid (!).

Cost me £30 last time I needed one and the insurer was happy.

That's true, but a lot of companies are asking for thatchem approved fitter only. If not they won't give a discount. It depends on the insurance company. I have problems with companies not wanting to insure my hippo as I don't have proof of his immobiliser being thatchem approved as he's imported. He was built here for export but returned. Certain companies don't want to know, or trick me into thinking he's not thatchem as they don't use that outside uk or Europe (forget which one) but that doesn't matter as I have got access to his immobiliser now and it's the same as those fitted to uk builds and I've proved it works. £45 cheaper for me when I tell them to remove the surcharge. :)

I got a that ham approved alarm and immob fitted to my previous 110. It made a grand difference of £20 at renewal.

I wouldn't be fussed with the discount as long as it gets you out your bed when it goes off and is a pain for a scrote to deactivate
