A brand new community forum has just been launched Christmas Day 2010.

Entitled “4x4 Overland Travel”, it’s a specialised community message-board which does exactly what it says on the label – no more, no less – so clearly it’s not meant as a rival to “LandyZone” or any other forum for that matter, as there is nothing remotely like it in the UK.

I hope it will be of benefit for everyone, as along with advice and shared information, uniquely it can be used to chronicle any past, current or future travels in a ‘personal thread’. Basically this is a completely free section saving those intending to travel overseas the time, money and hassle of registering, setting up and maintaining a website/blog of their own – in a nutshell, it’s already been done for them and awaits whoever wants to utilise it! Have a look for the blue, green and red coloured categories on the front page to see what I mean.

“4x4 Overland Travel” can be found at http://www.4x4overlandtravel.com or http://www.4x4overlandtravel.co.uk

Cheers and enjoy the rest of the Christmas break!

dunt think l/z is the place to advertise it, ive read your rules lol
Then clearly you didn't read them right Nathan!

What i said was - "no commercial advertising in the chat sections" (spam) as firms can willingly promote themselves within the "Companies" section free of charge.

As for the rest, don't mind in the least if LandyZone of any other forum gets a mention as "4x4 Overland Travel" is purely a 4x4 travel forum - not a general Land Rover forum. Basically it's there for all of us.

It's also above politics .. so anyone who prefers LRO, LRM, LRW or any other mag/forum/whatever are very welcome.

You got a good start... I'd work on the looks a bit more though and remove some banners form the top (too distracting and lacks professionalism in my opinion)

You're right, they are a pain. Anyone know how to get rid of the moving Google-type adverts? They just popped up one day and I don't know how to erase them. :(

Tom - r.e the adverts - it is due too the host that has your website on - forumotion - they do not even seem to have a "payed for" option which many have, to remove the adverts.

As I see it, your only option is to change hosts...if the forum has an export function then this should not be too much of an issue. The only prob with usinng another host is that at the moment, forumotion keeps phpBB up to date for you - if you moved away from these, chances are you would be sorting that, including the updating of phpBB, which is always an ongoing battle.

Also, forumotion sites have a history of being hacked...I personally wouldn't touch them with a long dirty stick.

Message me if you have no idea what I am going on about!

Opps, just realised you posted Rusty. Already I've trained myself to ignore the adverts. It's the content that's important, so it's a small price to pay for having a free forum in the first place; thanks anyway. I'll PM you if the hackers pay a visit!!!
