Brought another ebay bargain home tonight. Owner spent £1600 on it last December. Black 5 door.
All ball joints, VCU, tyres etc are new. VCU is a Bell refurb.
Reportedly lack of power and misfire. Garage has diagnosed lack of compression. Quick rev up showed exhaust with high water content.
Drove it home 20 miles, no water loss, steady 50mph with regular water checks.
Fab condition, both rear windows stuck down so noisy!!
Will be reporting back when survey and diagnostics completed.

Spent an hour on this today.
2 x new rear window regulators to get rid of the plastic sheet.
Tested compression on my over enthusiastic gauge, all 200PSI - but more importantly, all the same, so looks like the previous diagnostics were wrong, unless it changes when hot ?

Showing 2 fault codes.
P1186 - upstream (pre-cat) oxygen sensor electrical fault.
P0135 - Oxygen sensor heater circuit malfunction.

Looked at the pre-cat sensor waveform (usually 0.2V to 0.9V sinewave) and it is a flat line.
Now, looking at the history, it had a new lambda sensor in Oct 2021 - wonder why it would go again??

Think I'll change the O2 sensor again and see what happens.
No sign of damp in bores, all plugs same colour.
Looking good so far !
Background concern is that presumably water in exhaust could wreck the sensor ?

wonder why it would go again??

Maybe they used the wrong type?
There are 2 designs of O2 for the FL1, the pre-CAT and post-CAT being different.

My daughter's fiat 500 1.4 had the O2 sensor plugs reversed (they are both next to each other and identical) , which upset the the whole running of the engine, and gave an O2 sensor slow response code.

Thanks, yes maybe wrong one, maybe a duff one.

Will test heater continuity and change it if duff.
Hope that is all it is!
Can't think of a better plan than to correct faults and put it into use.

Popped a working spare O2 sensor (precat).
My word, that woke it up !!
Fault codes cleared, waveform back to as expected.
Goes like wotsit off a wossisname!!

So, will put it into use and check all else is well.
Also, mild excitement to find it has a factory fitted coolant level sensor. Looks a bit like a spare clutch master hanging below the coolant tank.
Must get out more.
Good look underneath, needs a couple of wishbone rubber boots.
Happy days.

If I bung a few of these O2 sensors in my L Series, will it to go like "wotsit off a wossisname"? :D:cool:
