Thanks for your previous replies to my questions guys, its much appreciated.I have one or two more i hope you can help me with.Just recently bought a 1994 4.6 HSE petrol, automatic. The heated seats dont seem to be working. Is there an easy fix for this like a fuse or something or is it going to cost me an arm and a leg to sort out?
One more question,I have noticed that when i have the heating on in the car it blows cold instead of hot on the passengers side, its fine and hot on the drivers side tho and i have the settings for both sides on high temp, any info how to check on this where to look for the pipes etc and sort it out would be great. As it is after all getting colder by the day and dont want the missus etc freezing their a**e off on that side of the car.
Thanks in advance for all advice.

muir318,

I think the fuses for the heated seats are behind a panel at the side of the driver's seat. I'd be surprised if they are both fed from the sdame fuse or relay, but you never know.

With regard to the heating issue, sounds like a blender motor problem.

Good luck!

Sam

Heated seats are a common failure item, usually the bottom element has a damaged wire and that causes them not to work, not too difficult to replace, see rangerovers.net for instructions on how to sort it.

Cold on the passenger side will be the blend motors, again see rangerovers.net. You can replace them induvidually if you buy second hand or buy the full set from the dealer and replace them all at the same time. Its a long job where you have to disassemble most of the dashboard but well worth it as it will give you a good insight into how your RR is put together so you can solve future problems on your own. I replaced mine as a set on probably one of the hotest days of the year and I wouldn't ever want to do it again on such a hot summers day. See rangerovers.net again for info - this is the thread I posted after doing them - RangeRovers.net • View topic - Blend Motor Replacement...

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

the heated seats are quite easy to repair, they are wired i one continuous loop and the element breaks on the seat base where the ridge is going side to side. follow the instructions previously posted and just connect the element back together with some crimp on elec connectors. be sure to move the element to the side so as not to foul on the metal rib that forms the ridge in the seat.

shouldn't take more than a couple of hours and you will need a set of torx sockets.

costs less than a tenner to fix!!!

Hello

I replaced both seat base pads on my 93 RRC this year. The seat back pads were fine. Easy, but fiddly job.

There are two relays under the central compartment between the seats and one or two fuses (I think one) under the passenger seat. If you push the buttons on the dash the relay will click and you can measure the voltage at the socket at the back of the central compartment to make sure there is a connection to the seat.

Once you get the seat out of the RR you can test each pad. If you get an open circuit through the socket for the seat back pad, then it needs replacing. If the circuit is good, then don't take the seat back apart, only do the base. I'm assuming the base circuit is open and so needs replacing.

Replacing the pads is expensive, about £80 for the 2 base pads, if you can find them. I would have jumped-wired the break, but the pads looked a little worse for wear and they were 15 years old!

The RR.net sight quoted above is worth a read and the pages from the workshop manual are also a good guide.

Good luck
Neil

as above but this can be done by testing the plugs that connect the seat to the car!! remember tho that it is one continuous loop and the two plugs have a joining wire!!
