Need help

been on here so much to look for some help but it my be coming to the time where i must give up and sell my l322 v8, or is help out there? the list sofar.
new battery 8 months ago,
new heater relay as would come on, on its own.
all good for untill now, battery is flat but not dead will jump with just a touch of power, but this only does it every 2 to 3 days.
will start in the morn and my wife will go up the road about 5 min drive, come back 2 hours later and flat. i jump it run it for 15 min and all is ok for 2 days. is this just a case of to much on inside the car in this cold (lot of power use). and not enough time to put power back in battery? some one said it will take 30 mins for the car to sleep, so thats all power on and start pluss 30 min to sleep and just 2min power in?
also went out to car and red light is on after 30 or so mins but went ou the over day and all was off. there is more wrong but will start here any help will be great.

Either you have current draw draining battery or a defective battery.

there is a documented fault with the hevac unit on the l322 that flatens the battery. not sur exactly what but i think its something to do with the ecu. Nt surprised the battery is flat after a few minutes driving, think about whats turned on, lights heater, heated screen seat etc all draw a lot of power which will reduce the amount of available power to charge the battery.

put your location on your posts and people may be local to help or recomend a goodgarage near you

dont want to sell becouse of battery sorry if that what it looks like, i have some probs with thermo not opening put new one in last year but would not open so left it out about 1 1/2 year ago and runs ok but would love to fix that as well. i have just had it on the computer and it said there was nothing wrong need help. as for the hevac fan it went in for that and they put in a new relay. the main thing is that i think its not going to sleep some time but not all the time?

I would love to help you out with your battery drain if i can, as i know how it feels as mine 4.4 V8 had a constant battery drain when i purchased it earlier this year. Out of interest has your car had the 07 spec headlights fitted? after weeks of searching and performing test on my car I found the drain which was being caused by the 07 spec facelift and new style headlights the previous owner had fitted.

With regards to your battery could you check what size the battery is, is it a land rover genuine battery or a after market model? The battery spec should be at least 110Ah & 850cca (cold cranking amps)

The HVAC issue is caused by the HVAC final stage resistor, if they have only changed the relay AND NOT THE ACTUAL RESISTOR this may still be causing an issue, does your fan still come on on its own??

If your battery has been drained completely over and over again, this may have ruined the battery and may need replacing again, do you have a plugin battery charger as jump starting the car will not recharge the battery, if the battery was quite flat then it would take a very long time for the alternator to recharge the battery to a sufficient level. Get your self a plugin battery charger and connect your battery up and charge it until it is fully charged. You can check the condition of your battery by using a multimeter to measure the volts in the battery it should be 12.4 volts but anything over 11 will start the car, anything below and it will not start.

Another issue to check is that the alternator maybe faulty and causing a loop back which would drain the battery very quickly.

Just to confirm so you are aware, when you lock the car it takes around 16-20 minutes for the car to go to sleep, i.e. the 'car' you refer to is actually the BCU (Body Control Unit) that has to go to sleep. When the car is 'awake' it draws around 700mA which if it is not going to sleep would drain the battery quickly, when the car is 'asleep' the entire car should not draw any more than 20-30mA.

Sorry for the long post, but i know how you are feeling, and once i sorted it out its a great feeling!

all help is great and this is just the start of my probs. what i will say is that i do not have new lights , the battery is what the comp at the car shop came up with when i put my reg in but will look at it just to see in the morn, but has been ok for a year but has been jumped lots of times . as for the relay on the hevac fan it is not running on any more. it also had a new alternator 2 years ago the day i got it, i will look it to the draw of the car in sleep mode. is it poss for the car to sleep ok at one point then not go off the next time? also this only goes on this time of year. many thanks

You really need to do the drain test, when you do it ensure that you remove the 2 fuses for the radio and sat nav unit as if you do the test with these fuses in you will blow your multimeter as the these consume more than 10A (which is the max a multimeter can support) Just unlocking or opening a door will awake the car and will require 16-20 minutes to go back to sleep. If its only happening at this time of year that may indicate that the battery does not have enough cold cranking amps to start the car.

just want to add went to the car about a hour ago 6:30 pm been sat from 6:30pm tuesday and started first time. but when i put the key in the car to start the fan/heater went on to one but i made sure that the fan/heater was off ?

As a rule of thumb if it takes 5 seconds of cranking to start the car it will take AT LEAST 20 mins of normal driving.....not ticking over...driving to put the charge back in the battery...this doesn't include the power usage for heater's etc so could easily be 40 mins or more.

Lots of short trips=flat battery
