need a new grease gun

I'm sick of grease guns now, I think Im on my 3rd (OK I lost the first one, annoying, cos that one was good, but cant remember the brand) the 2 I have had recently are crap, one was a quick cheepie, and it ****ed more grease out the back than it put in, the one I have now was a halfrauds one, and it leaks more round the connector than it puts in.

quite like the one handedness of this one

but it might be as crap as the others at that price.

but this one looks like it might do a better job allround, but has no flexi pipe

the next one up is like £35 can't really stretch to that right now.

2nd looks better ,it can be hard finding decent guns ,i had to get a snapon eventually after going through a few

I seem to recall Wanner grease guns being amongst the best on a similar thread earlier this year. Quite a few of them on eBlag.

i hate grease guns, we go through loads at work, even snap on ones are rubbish (yes i paid £150 for an air one too) i ish somebody would design a good one that lasts

I have given up with expensive ones, we hav 1 real old one that's good and the rest are all cheapo ones...

OP - are you using cartridges? Some people just fill it up, cartridges do a lot better job at getting it out the right end of the gun

WANNER GREASE GUN WITH FLEXEY CONNECTION | eBay

I'm using a Hilka 400ml cartridge/manual fill one with a flexi pipe supplied with it. Cost about £12 off ebey. It's good, with lots of pressure and easy use. The outside is a black crackle finish that's easy gripped, even with cruddy hands. Not as good as a wanners tho

I got my Wanner grease gun for £11 off eBay.

Im using bulk fill, rather than carts, I always have a tin or 2 in the shed, get it of a mechanic friend who buys by the case.

Stooped question of the day... What are you guys greasing up with the grease gun? Only thing I can think of is the cv joints? How regular...

Track rod ends and UJs. I grease the UJs after every off road trip - especially so if wading has been involved.

Got mine from srewfix, its a bit fiddly to fill up but as long as you dont try and put too much into it then it works well (issue is getting the thing screwed back together!!)

I bought a Wanner grease gun as an apprentice, and the bloody thing packed up on me last week.
Mind, I did buy it 41 years ago, so....

im a plant fitter,im very finnicky about grease guns,but the best one i had was one that came with new caterpillar machines,the only weak spot is the threads for the pipe.the one i have got now equals the previous one.
a good grease gun should be able to shoot grease at least 5 metres

I bought one of the single handed ones from MachineMart and it broke in about 2 months use. Poorly made.

is that because the caterpillars are wiggly and need lots of lube to get them to be able to move proper?

or because they are so ****ly made that they need all that lube to cover up all the bodges that the line managers encourage just to get machine build numbers up? Id never buy CAT plant after working at the Desford plant. Crocks of **** I tell thee.

on the grease fun front, im after a new un and have been looking at one of these big 20lt jobbies. Buying the grease in a barrel is much cheaper and because its cheap, its more encouragement to use it more often

Top-Tip as told to me years ago, if you're getting grease ooze out around your nipple (yes, get the laugh in now) put a rag over the nipple first, then push on the connector, and pump away. I kind of helps it grip/seal better, but the grease can still pass through the cloth.
