Wiltshire man, I have made a similar bonnet catch for my landy, but it is well concealed. I poke my finger in the grill and open the bonnet with my finger like a magician, I have challenged others to find how it works and most non Landy people can't.
I think yours is a good idea and you may improve it by a little concealment.
I use a set of simple lock picks which I bought from Northern Tools, I use them in a professional way not as a Tea leaf. Anyone could buy these picks and with a little practice use them on the simplest of locks.
I tried them on my Landy just for fun ( the same model as yours ) 5 mins ago.
drivers door about 5 secs, passenger door just over 10 secs and rear door with very loose tumblers in a few secs. Just to say that old Landys are easy to get into so you need all the other devices to stop the little bastards driving them away.

I still don't really see why LR went away from what was fitted to the earlier ones like mine - key in the front, then reach in and undo the latch - gorra be as secure as a cable, yet more reliable?

And as i was told by people on here last time i mentioned it,

"worra bout the bluddy great 'ole under the engine then?"

from inside the bonnet they clip the alarm siren's wires, and then they hve plentyof time to jump the car...
defender(SW) rear window(locks) are plastic rubbish so getting into the car is not an issue..

open my doors and all hell lets loose, mines got a siren inside the truck that works independent from the alarm ..........
