wifes rover 75 cdt(same lump as gaylander) is making a good dam awful noise it sounds fooked,garage have said its fooked but i am not convinced worked fine oneday,failed to start in the morning now this,however apart from the noise which i think could be a crank damper some knowledgeable guys on the 75 forum have suggested its a fooked injector have a listen see what you think

Doesn't sound very well, does it? Have you tried listening around each injector using a poor-mechanic's stethoscope- ie a screwdriver in the ear to see if the sound is coming from there? In my experience on another car, when the damper pulley was knurdled, it was easy to see the wobbling and the noise was different. Mine was more of a metal knock- whereas yours sounds more blowy to me?

tried disconnected each one in turn but the noise remained

idling sounds normal
but when you rev it 'n let off .. something be faulty
sounds as if it might be the cam chain ..
i.e. that's what the noise sounds like .. a chain running over a surface ..

would have thought that under load .. i.e. reving ..
the chain be under tension ..
but when the load is off .. the cam chain tensioner device needs to take up the slack
( something like that ..
( i used to drive a vehicle with a large cat. diesel ..
( on idle the overhead cam chain would rattle like a can of ball bearings being shook
( then .. under load .. that chain noise vanished as the chain were under tension

although never have read .. on this site .. of cam chain problems with the td4/m47r engine

belts 'n cam chain are on that side of the engine where your shining the torch

~~~~~~~~~~~
btw: i wouldn't have a clue what sounds a faulty injector might make ..
at least not the injector type on the td4 ..
h.p. fuel pump be on that end of the engine as well
and a.c. compressor if fitted
I have the receipt in my files for my car for investigating the cam chain and all was reported well- in fact it turned out to be the crank pulley damper, which was all replaced, so it could be that...
