Have seen the term " NAS " used in conjunction with Land Rover & Defender! what does NAS mean ?

yep....and refers to Defenders sold in US and Canada, late 80's to mid 90's

Defenders after 1997 did not meet US Dept. of Transportation specs (no airbag or front "crumple zone") and could not be imported.
