Hi all

I have a 2001 K Series 1.8 GS which has been converted to dual fuel. Looking in the engine bay there is a pipe coming out of the left corner of the injector cover. This is split with a T piece and a pipe coming off the "leg" of the T. I have circled it on the image below (sans extra "leg" pipe, I took it off to get a replacement at the motor factors).

This "leg" pipe is not attached to anything and just dangles down the back of the engine. Does anyone know what its meant to be attached to?

The other end of the pipe is attached to (I think) a condenser on the bulkhead under the air filter housing.

I have also noticed that there seems to be something missing from the right hand side of the block (arrowed in the next pic). There are 2 bolt holes and it looks like there has been something bolted on there in the past, but not since I've owned it (unless a garage has taken it off and forgotten to put it back without me noticing...). Has this been removed due to the LPG conversion? Does anyone know whats meant to be there - if anything?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Cheers

The 2 bolt holes you can see in the side of the head are where the distributor would be on an early K series. You should have a black plate bolted over the cam instead but they are often left off by lazy mechanics. Was the LPG system a diy fitment?

Hi Nodge

Do you know where I can get a replacement plate for that? I dont have any means of fabricating one so I need to buy one.

The LPG was fitted by a company in Bristol by the previous owners. I've no idea who they are I'm afraid.

I presume between the two bolt holes you can see the end of the exhaust cam? The plate should be relatively easy to obtain from a breaker's yard. They are or should be fitted to all post 2000 K series engines. Do you have a certificate of compliance for the LPG system. Some parts particularly the bottle look home made! But like I said I'm not an LPG expert.

I'll check with the local breakers, cant believe I didnt think of that...

The bottle you see is valve saver fluid, although it looks homemade, its only because its bracket broke and I cable tied it to the air filter to keep it secure.

The LPG system was fitted by an LPG specialist garage, I have all the certs and docs to back it up. Come to think of it, the garage contact details are there too so I will get in touch with them when I get home to see what they can tell me.

OK, a quick update and another question...

I got my wife to dig out the paperwork and contacted the LPG fitters about the mystery hose. Describing exactly what I have above and with the same pics they came back with the following email (pasted in full...):

"vacume hose to pressure sensor or regulator"

I only know enough about the engine to give it a service. Can anyone tell me where these bits are on the K series engine?

Thanks

Ian

Ignore my waffling about the cam cover on the exhaust cam as it's complete rubbish. The early engines distributor is fitted to the inlet cam. The coil is bolted to the exhaust cam housing so your holes are simply where the coil would be, of course your car has DIS coils under the cover plate between the cams.
The pressure regulator is on the left side of the fuel rail. I'll look out a picture of it.

Here you are. You will find it under the inlet manifold below the left hand circle in your 1st picture.
The pipe connection is the sticking out bit
