Mysterious bolt ...

Hello,

While scouting out the engine bay for a nice place to run a power cable for my amp. I noticed this bolt laying in the engine bay behind the egr.

Can anyone tell me where you think it came from?

I do know that the starter motor was changed by the previous owner about a month ago....

Not sure but that looks like the retaining bolt that joins my alternator to the engine bracket on my 1.8. Might well be left over from the SM change - the probably lost track of it and put a new one in if so

Hmmm i have noticed a knocking noise when going over small bumps.. Hopefully nothing loose

If your starter motor or alternator were loose I expect you'd have more serious problems. I'm trying to hunt down a knock too, blinkin annoying!

Alternatively - they lost track of it and said 'to hell with it' just leave it without the last bolt.

I would check asap that the alternator is mounted correctly and securely.

Yeh, can't deny that's a strong poss. Hell it's happened to me. Also I've even started the engine with the alternator pivotted forward - 150% fecking stupid and punched myself in the nut for being so stupid but nothing bad seemed to come of it so maybe it is loose.

Better go check that alternator Mike....
