OK, Further Update: - (Vid will be linked once it has finished uploading....)
So took rocker cover off, and the state inside of the cover is awful...the rocker area looks almost dry with a tiny amount of oil!
So fired her up and as the Video will show......feck all oil is getting into the rocker space....there is the odd pfft of oil from the first pedestal (one on the far right) but naff all else.
So ran at varying speeds and still nothing...I also used a large screwdriver and careful levered the rocker arms a few mm away from the posts with no affect to oil flow!
Removed the rocker assembly and checked the oil ways and they seem clear...replaced, run engine again...still no 'flow' at the top!
So question is.....How much oil should I be seeing flowing if at all? I did move the rocker arms away from there normal place when I had the assembly off and there is a film of oil where they sit...shafts didn't look too bad to be honest, yes there were marks were the rockers roll, but not a lip or anything untoward to me eyes!
I do have a tin of engine flush and 10 litres of 20W/50.....do I do a flush and fill and see if there is a blockage that may clear....or is pouring another £40 worth of oil into it a waste of time!?

Photos below and one of the spark plug....the plugs are 2 months old...and already blackened with oil burning!
And considering it is dry at the top....it must be getting past the piston rings!

a blockage will still retain oil pressure + you've just added nearly 2 ltrs of glue aswell.imo thinner oil.it never ever hurt any of my 38s & was always golden mint clean.

So do i do the flush and add the 20W/50 or do I just admit defeat and park it up!

ant never thought you would quote defeat.flush can cause problems as you have serious crud but its got to be removed or as much as poss,theres a high risk of blocking the oil pick up pipe in sump but you may be lucky.imo id remove rockers plug any visible hole & carefully scrape as much off as poss & blow out with airline,you have flush-fresh oil/filter nothing to loose m8

You've gone to a bucket load of work to then go ahead and park it.. so if you flush it you're going to be no worse off !

Forte flush, sump off, clean strainer and then try 20/50.

clean the crap off those rocker covers cos its not good then flush it follow the instructions to the letter dont run the engine any longer than it says drop the sump and check the pick up as said, then refill with the 20w50 new filter, never give up never surrender.

Just to put this topic to bed ...
Saint's done a bl**dy astounding job on this motor but sometimes the simplest things get overlooked when you've already checked them 3 times chasing various different issues and you assume they must still be OK.
Oil is picked up from sump by oil strainer, goes through the oil pump, past the oil pressure switch and on up into the engine. So, if oil pressure light is coming on then the switch must be knackered or it is probably an issue between the sump and the switch. Sump was full so not lack of oil. Oil pressure relief valves both sorted by Saint. Pump fine. What the chuff else could it be? In this case the o-ring on the oil strainer had cracked on refitting so there wasn't a decent seal and it was struggling to suck the oil up. Replaced the o-ring and bingo! Oil pressure back up and no more light. So, next time you put everything together and something's not quite right, track-back and double-check because sometimes that new part isn't all it is cracked up to be.

Well found.....I did fit a new O ring, but it was a tight fitment, so maybe I snagged it on refitting causing the split, and hence losing oil prime...
Well done fella....
She runs sweet other than the oil pressure problem...and you have also found the reason the handbrake was so bloody useless....
Now you've fixed it, can I have it back now??

I put a bigger o-ring in than he thought was necessary too. Bit of a discussion on that.
Not fixed all the issues yet. Waiting for new seals etc. That tappet is still damn noisy too. Also, I should point out it currently has no drive shafts! Don't suppose you've got some old air-bags lying around?!
Would you like her back to finish the refurb?! Not my decision of course but I can put in a good word for you.

It is a Rangie. I doubt they'll be much profit. I'm still toying with the idea of Dumball Rally or similar. Again, not my decision. There's been an awful lot of lying on backs in the dirt and cold by torchlight with rain coming down. Strangely rewarding for all the discomfort - especially when it is fixed.
Actually, in fairness a fair few parts are not as new as they were when it was acquired! I've yet to see if the replacement timing cover that has gone on leaks or not. The rad was swapped too. Quite a few other parts now I come to think about it. It'll run properly at the end but it won't all be pristine new parts!
