Hello, sorry my first post is begging for some help.

I have a Facelift 2004 Freelander TD4 which has up until now given me lots of pleasure, ok there were the master and slave clutch cylinders which needed replacing and the alcantara seats are bobbly and looking a bit tired but apart from that it's been brilliant!

Just recently it has had a couple of problems though...firstly the engine kept running after I had turned off the ignition and pulled the key out (replaced the solenoid) but it now doesn't start up very well at random intervals. This morning I sat there for about 20 seconds turning it over and mashing the accelerator pedal until it coughed and spluttered into life, like an old petrol lawnmower, but now it seems to do it more and more often. I changed the electric fuel pump but it hasn't helped at all. Once running it is sweet as a nut and sometimes it fires up immediately, it seems to be a random problem!

Any ideas please?

Thanks.

The stop solenoid is usually to blame on l-series diesels. On a td4 a faulty fuel injection system will cause it to run-on and coincidently would also cause problems when starting.
Worth looking at your injection system.
Put some injector cleaner in first of all. Check your battery condition.

:welcome2:Yorkie, :search:for "injector leak test" in the forum search. Simple enough test to do to find a duff injector.
