hi Tom87,

just a couple of comments, first it looks like you've done a pretty good job of getting this back together :)

i'm going to guess your dad pretty much knows his landrovers but yours looks a bit of an odditty as a 2a, the bulkhead appears to be post 1967 (single wiper motor) but you also appear to have the earlier wire spoked steering wheel

you also appear to have the early s2 radiator panel which is dead flat with "bugeye" headlights/rings

the wings look correct to me to be military with the above and below indicators and sidelights (not sure if civvy had them like that)

none of this is necessarily "wrong" though as "some" military stuff kept earlier fittings mixed with later fittings making them look very "bitsa"

yours may also have been fitted with a civvy rear crossmember from the factory as standard so don't be in any rush to change it for the big square one

i've a military 2a (called Chalkie) which is even stranger than yours as i believe it to be a 1970-71 ex-New Zealand "Skippy", an 88" that is on a "combat chassis" (extended dumbirons and spring hangers and shackles) with the strangest crossmember i've seen so far, he's not on the road yet as i've still got to go through the registration process before starting any repair work on him

i'm also a local, i live in Ward End, got a scruffy 88" bitsa and a nice 109 2a (Big Ears) as well as Chalkie

"if" you're interested in club stuff i'm a member of the Series2 club and we have the local area meetings at the Burnt Post on the A45 in Coventry on the third Thursday of each month around 7.30-8.00pm, generally a good laugh, you don't have to be a member to attend the meetings and we're all interested in seeing new 2a's/meeting new folks, it'd be nice to see you and your motor there one night
