I know I'm going to be prosecuted and haunted down like a mad dog but tried the search function without success. Don't know the correct English name for the bl... thing so most probably that's why nothing showed up. Anyway I'd like to know the name/function of that small "looks like a petrol filter" filter hanging loose one end in the back of the engine, just behind the MAF. And I wouldn't be I (member of Dad's army) if this request was not accompanied by a picture.:D:D:D (Of course I mean that small filter just below the yellow arrow.....)

Its the turbo vent filter. It has been know that it can help with loss of power if it is changed. It also just vents to air (no pipe conected to other end). It is worth changing it at when you have it serviced,

Thanks booboodag,
Thinking of getting such a filter next week. Went over to BMW last week and bought the revised version (without cotton filter) of the engine breather filter but forgot for this small one, went over there again this afternoon (while visiting the wife at the hospital, bmw dealer just close to it) but as it's friday, these guys stopped working at 14.30, so will be a monday job. Thanks again and take care. Ciao.

Don't panic Captain Mainwaring, here's LR the part no. it should be the same in any language......

Can I be excused sir?

Went to the BMW dealer again today for that small turbo vent filter but that item doesn't exist for them. They went back to the 90's model 2002 1600TI but even these models already had other fuelfilters. Will try my luck at a specialised autoparts shop now.

The engine is a BMW M47 engine. This might help the BMW engineers next time. But I wouldn't go to a BMW dealer for parts for your Freelander. Not everything is exactly the same. A regular Land Rover dealer should have the right parts (and probably costs less)...

I think in Dutch it's just called a "turbo filter". ;)

The turbo on the freelander, being a variable vane one, is not the same as on the BMW. So maybe BMW do not have it on their engine. Can get them on line from most Landrover suppliers.
