Hi I'm new to this section so I just thought I would say hello! Well share some pics of my new toy and pick some brains if that's ok! First pics

And now the bad bit it won't start! The chap I'm buying it from says it got worse and worse at starting over 2 weeks or so and the last time he started it it started and after about 30 seconds it stopped it did this 4 or 5 times and now it won't start at all. Any ideas would be a great help I'm thinking maybe an air leak?:)

Petrol or diesel? Looks really nice - if it's as good underneath a non running engine is a minor problem.

I would say...

Check battery health and connections.

All your filters. My thoughts are it could be fuel filter. He may have run on veg oil who knows. Fuel starvation?

thanks for the good comments im very very happy with it. it used to be a truck cab but apart from that i dont thin much has been changed in it 40 odd years!

it appears to have had a modification to the wipers as the screen is for individual motors but they're obvious by thier lack of presence and a single motor fitted in the nearside parcel shelf also the centre horn button appears to be missing

tidy looking motor though and one of the better colours:5bdriving:

being a diesel it does sound like a fuel starvation problem, it could just be a failed lift pump, an air leak on one of the feed pipes from the tank to the lift pump or finally a blockage in the fuel pickup pipe...

or it could be the stop lever not moving properly and vibrated back to closed/stop position cutting off the fuel which is probably the first check

try opening the filter bleed point and see if you can manually pump fuel up before getting carried away, if needs be give the engine a short click on the starter button to rotate the cam a little and try again as sometimes it's difficult to pump fuel manually as the lobe that drives the pump sits in the wrong place blocking the ability to manually pump fuel

if no fuel pumps then it's time to look for blockages, it could just be the gauze on the pickup is blocked with crap, an airline gently blown down the fuel pipe from the pump back to the tank ensures there's nothing in the line

if neither of those sorts it i'd next be checking the pump works correctly, most likely by removing it and checking the valves and diaphragm inside it

i'm not experienced with these old 2.25 diesels but these are similar checks that need applying to any motor with this sort of problem

oh by the way did i say, that's a very nice looking motor so don't be ruining it with chequer plate, gay spokes and other assorted tat

if you want some very knowledgeable advice about this engine i'd get yourself on the Series2 forum, introduce yourself with a few pictures, then pose your engine problem in the workshop, there's every chance Crashbox will answer and he does like these diesels (i think he's had two off me, he's also a different Crashbox to the one on here)

DO NOT mess about with your injector pump as good timing on these is pretty critical for best running

Thats one really nice looking series! E reg would be a 67 so the wiper motor is right, I think its the windscreen thats earlier. There should be a cover plate over the wiper motor. I think the bonnet hinges should have been 3 bolt type by now, but thats not an issue really and I'm not 100% sure anyway. First thing I would do once you get it running is put some proper series II door hinges on. :)

S2 door hinges? What ones are on it? Thanks to everyone for the help and advice I haven't had time to look at it yet but im hoping to have a look at it tomorrow!

Series 3 hinges.....it's only a minor detail but one of those silly things Series 2 drivers take pride in.....sticky out hinges :D that and having a proper metal grill instead of a nasty plastic thing

ps. you've got Series 3 door tops anorl (different window locks)...........Nice though :D

unless the holes for the wiper spindles have been blocked up somehow i see none in the bulkhead which is where i'd expect them to be with a single wiper motor

That is a cracking looking motor, nice and straight. It was a 2A that got me hooked on land rovers back in the early 80's never been the same since

Well I have just had a quick look and I have diesel getting in and out of the filter but it's not getting to the injectors? Any ideas what I should look at next? Thanks in advance! I'm not sure about the wipers as s2's are new to me

The thing to keep in mind is that a lot of changes occurred in 1967. The Series II had broadly three incarnations, the original series IIs, the early IIAs, and the later IIAs. The 1967 changes brought about the black dashboard, long handbrake lever, single wiper motor, negative earth electrical system and some smaller things. Your vehicle should have all the features of the post-1967 vehicles but the wiper set up is strange. To be honest I wouldn't worry too much so long as they work.
