Hi guys! Purchased my first Defender at the weekend and loving it already. Here's a quick snap from my first outing;

Anyway, I have a couple of niggles I'd like to sort. These problems have already been covered in other threads but I'm still struggling slightly. Firstly my bonnet release latch has snapped from inside the cabin. At first I could open the bonnet with a pair of pliers but not anymore. I removed the front grill but couldn't see how to pop the bonnet from there?

Secondly, my driver's electric window doesn't work. I removed the rubber seal between the body and the door to uncover some broken wiring. I soldered these back together and it worked for about 5 minutes before becoming non-operational again. The wire was a bit on the short side so my guess is it has snapped again, would I be as well buying a new loom?

I also have acquired a nice wide set of wheels for free, apparently from an old Range Rover. The plan is to refurb them myself, but I'm not too sure what size of tyres they will require and if they'll need spacers or not. I'll get more information up on them in due course.

Sorry for all the silly questions, it's all new to me but I'm keen as mustard to learn! :)

Cheers,
Liam

theres a sliding mechanism under the latch on stricker panel pull it toward drivers side ,you can use a bit of string ,wire or cable tie through grille till you get new cable,just extend wire ,either crimps or solder ,wheels depend on age of your vehicle and age of rr p38 will need special spacers to fit ,rrc wheels will fit any 300tdi on or earlier with spacers

Thanks for the reply James.

I'll get the grill off and try that again.

As for lengthening the wires, I did give that a go briefly but found it pretty difficult and infuriating to feed the new wire through the already occupied seal. Perhaps I just need more patience!

I've since found out they're not RR wheels but were simply fitted to an RR of sorts. I'll get pictures up in due course as I'm sure some of you guys will have came across them before.

Cheers!
