My latest small project ..

Blimey what a brute of a winch - at least you know your bumper's up to the job! That's how you find out whether your dumbirons are sound ....

So, bodged the Allbright up, took it apart, de-soldered the innards and pulled the nackered connector apart, cut a bit of copper busbar up, hammered to thickness (thinness?) soldered it in and it works!... So I loaded the rope on and job's a good 'un till I get recovery points and plate the side of the chassis.

Can you tell which connector is the bodged one? I've since cut it down and filed it straight etc ..

Works now from a switch in the cab or from a remote.

Changed all my bolts to 12.9 as it is all in shear. Only have 6 off for the bumper to chassis and 4 off winch to bumper.

Fingers crossed all is good, rewound it today using a tree as an anchor to get it nicely sat on the drum. Seems to run nice and smooth as I only have the single battery will have to keep an eye in that .

Finally done, errr .... Paint is crap, only done quickly enough to try to keep rust at bay ..

All works well, so quite pleased, especially when the whole thing including the 12mm 100' 12 strand Dyneema, cost about £250 .... and time!! Although the yellow recovery points look bolted up, that was only the first thought, and they're actually welded up too. Only thing left to fit to the bumper area is the A-bar .. but the winch is too large to fit it as it is, so I'll be re-modelling that shortly too .. It never ends ...

@Paul D , Looking pretty and shiny..in fact too shiny..( paint is going to get scratched and damaged , anyway ) .LOL. Needs to be taken out to play in the mud. Plus , what a bargain! , You cannot complain about that at all.
Just shows how big that drum is, when you have 100' of 12mm rope on it and still have room to spare!!

Are you going to put an integral steering guard on there too?

Heh, the whole winch, apart from the motor, is massive, especially compared to my M8000 Warn! The line pull isn't quick, though is quicker than the Warn, but is massively powerful by contrast and doesn't appreciably slow down like the Warn did, which is nice.

Yes, I plan a steering guard at some point, but other things will be done to the Landy first, it needs the tubular outriggers replacing that hold the seatbelt mounts and fuel tank rear mounts. Last time I lifted it up on the rockslider, we thought the slider was bending, but it was the tubular outrigger splitting!!
