Where do I get one and wot about the front number play?

The part number is 589448. Paddocks, craddocks, lrseries, ebay, they're fairly common. You can get just the lens, or the whole assembly with lens, back plate, bulb and wires already connected. Providing it fits, then just changing the lens is 2 min job with 2 screws. I can check the distance between the two screws later, its different for different stop lamps.

Changing the whole assembly is more complicated as you have to wire the new ones in.

Replacement (Britpart) ones are about £4 iirc, genuine about £25

If u could measure the distance between screws that would be great!

No problem, its 52mm.

The original lucas 'pork pie' lights which were on mine when I got it were larger. They were very corroded due to leaky cracked glass lenses that had been badly glued back together. I never got them to make a decent contact, and eventually the screws pulled out and I lost one completely, so I've now got the replacement plastic ones like in the photo.

I thought numberplate lamps came in with reflective plates in 73, pre 73 motors can have the black plates.

Always had number plate lamps, even on pre war vehicles (pre 1939) reflective plates were just an added safety feature because vehicles were parking without lights in 30mph zones.

Whats the story behind the landy?

Looking at previous MOTs for it (https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history-vehicle) the back plates has been going on for a few years. and 2 years ago it had an issue with rear spring mount
I've just taken a look myself great way of seeing your landys history!
The funny thing is the previous mot had no problems found!!

mine - that is any of our cars - tend to only pass first time if I take it to a place that does mot's only, i.e. they don't earn anything from any work that has to be done, funny that :D

when the missus used to take one of the cars in to a garage, it seemed to need a lot more "essential work" then when I take them.

some series wheel nuts are double ended, this to the nob-heads looks like there on backwards, tack your landy to an mot station that has grown up!

Here's a pic of my wheel nuts!
