Both ends are tapered on all nuts apart from the black one in the first pic which I can't get off due to it being a different size!

If the black ones the same as a defender size I think its 37mm off the top of my head, been a while since I removed the wheelnuts with a socket. I just use the brace that you get with the car (got an original 1969 one in the series with matching jack)

Those wheel nuts do not appear to have much thread on are the wheels original as some are thicker requiring longer studs?

Wheel nuts look wrong to me, should only have a taper on one side and be flat on the other.

I'd change them out for proper ones, they don't look like they are on many threads either.

Can you take a wheel nut off and take a photo of it?

They are PROPER LAND ROVER WHEEL NUTS the military spec'ed double tapered wheel nuts for numpty squaddie's years ago, used on standard length wheel stud to protect the thread against possible damage and also doesn't matter which way they're put on at night...

Hi my series 2a just failed its mot! I'm looking for any advice u can give me on the the certificate they gave me. Many thanks

Some welding and a number plate light to pass, no big deal on a Landy, especially one that 43+ years old.

I'd check the damp backplates as well, there was a small drain hole in the backplate, which allows any oil passing the axle tube oil seal to run down the back of the brake backplate or you could have a leaking wheel cylinder.

Here's a pic of the wheel nut! I've just sheared the bolt off putting it back on!
