My freelander 1 HDC warning light wont go off. The ring on the gearshift does not seem to affect HDC any more since clutch was replaced. Feels like car is running with HDC engaged all the time even on flat or at high speed. Do i dare drive it 40 miles to nearest landrover garage?

Presumably the switch is broken and permanently on.

On a manual you can lift the rubber gaiter on the gear stick and pull the wires from the switch easy enough to disable it. I presume you can remove the trim to do the same with an auto.

The HDC should only work in 1st (and reverse), so once you're moving and change (quickly) out of first, then it should not affect driving. Do not take a route that has an incline to a junction!
