Hello and welcome to my project, always wanted one from childhood and finally got round to it, an 04 discovery td5. Relatively good condition for the age and a nice spec. Has factory center diff lock and ACE (disabled by a previous owner due to a leaky pipe I was told) with heated cream leather and black carpet. 110k on the clock with FSH and plenty invoices.
Here it is the first time on the drive.
First job was to give the mucky seats a decent clean, fix the leaky sunroofs and do something with the saggy headliner...
as you can see the driver's seat was a tad grotty but with some Dr leather wipes and elbow grease this was the first round almost done...
You all know how a saggy headliner looks so I went with some black 4 way stretch carpet to replace the mouldy ****...
And from the back...
may not be everyone's cup of tea but a vast improvement in my opinion and as good a fit as the time you put in to it. Also left some cable in the roof to the empty switches for future ideas.
Next up was the real work, to wire wheel the heck of the chassis, Axel's and arms and de-oxidize it to underseal. I used deox gel to strip it back once wheeled and electrox to protect it, both from bilt hamber and sprayed it with hammerite paint after to finish it black.
Post wire wheel...
Cheeky bit of welding as the chassis was a bit thin after removing the rust behind the air bag (electric no gas welder so splashy as it gets)...
Post deox gel after about half hour but left it on overnight...
After washing off the gel the day after...
Ideally would have done this twice or left it on for longer but only had a long weekend but was happy enough with how it turned out.
Next day was the electrox zinc paint, I used a brushable tin for the chassis and axles which went on thick and 3 aerosol cans to go around the suspension parts and fill in the awkward gaps...
finished this on the Monday and left it until Friday morning before spraying it with aerosol hammerite and fitting the new suspension bits. Britpart medium duty springs with +2 inch OME shocks with tf towers, +150mm brake lines and new spring cups/isolators...
