As I parked I noticed a trail of fuel along the road and up my drive, I traced it to the area near the fuel sedimenter by the offside rear wheel. I removed the metal case around the sedimenter to find the drain cap snapped off on the bottom on the case. Is this likely to empty all of the diesel from my tank? I thought this would only drain water captured in it. I've ordered a new sedimenter, but I'm concerned the cap may have snapped off a while ago.

its your fuel filter and yes you can empty the tank if the plug comes out of the bottom

Hi Tone,

welcome to the looneyzone.

I trust you do not live on a bend that motorcycles or cars use at speed? As diesel on the road can be very nasty stuff.

If the drain off has broken then it could lead to you losing a lot of fuel.

Cheers

Thanks guys, I'll fit the new filter when it arrives.
There's a thin line of diesel along my lane, most ended up on my drive where the tank eventually emptied. I don't think it's a danger.
