after driving landrovers for the last 20 years plus, i have now sold my freelander. I could no longer put up with the poor fuel consumption any longer.
This is the only gripe i have had with the car, tried everything to make it better but still getting low 30s at 60 mph.
Thank you everyone who has helped me in the past and good luck with your motors.

Shame. That is poor, its the sort of figure I'd get from my old Disco and that's a much bigger car and engine.

There must have been something wrong somewhere cos it should get more than that. Its a shame LR ditched the good old Rover diesel lump.

Max mpg on my auto TD4 was 35 even with a synergy and new MAF, synergy was set at 6 which was the best economy setting for the Pierburg MAF. My old Discovery would never get better than 25 mpg.

I'm getting 35/36 round town and 42+ on a run since using diesel rhino, it's also sorted out the poor starting.

I was getting approx 33-34 mpg mixed town/country. This has risen by about 3-4 mpg since I took the INSA TURBO Rangers off and back on road tyres. I have a heavy right foot as well... (TD4 FL1 '02)

My TD4 auto has averaged 31mpg over the last year and 15,000 miles.

A large proportion of the time is spent driving around South London doing some very short journeys. I would expect to get about 36+ on a run, but with the General Grabber AT tyres, the increased frontal area due to the lift and bigger tyres all don't help.

On my winter tyres I was getting 42 on a long run. Tyres make a huge difference as does the higher profile.

Get nats nut under 30 in my N/A mixed use, but it weighs around 2 tons and am happy with the mpg.
My last jap vehicles with all their technology gave far less, my Ford Escort was best MPG ever but fell to bits...so sticking with the N/A 110 its cheap and simple to look after.
Modern cars boast 45+ to the gallon but cost £500 a service and a lot more if it plays up, its all a balance :)
