Multifunction S/Wheel

anyone know why the speed/ mode switch doesnt work on the steering wheel, except the obvious fact its a 1996 p38 4.0 and everything packs up, also how do i get it out to test/repair it?

To be honest it not worth repairing. If it dont work then just replace all the wheel switches. They come as a set and when I bought mine a couple of years back they where about £30 for the lot. To remove you need to undo 4 screws from the back of the steering wheel. This removes the airbag (disconnect the battery first, and leave for half an hour) then you will see the switches and looms held by very small very tight Torx screws, make sure you have the right bit.

cheers for that, i will have a look tomorrow, i'm a tight arse and believe nothing is beyond economical repair so will attemp, then if i break it have lost nothing!!!

this is where the airbag snaps my nose off when i forget to remove the battery!!!!! lol!!!!

Are you sure it is the switches? A very common problem on the P38 is that the vacuum hose that goes to the cruise control cracks up. They sit on the top, left side of the engine and are very easy to replace, I bought some standard vacuum hose for £3 and replaced mine in 10 minutes.

the cruise works fine and the set and reset buttons are fine, the vol/skip doesnt work but it's not oem stereo i just wanted the up/down speed function as i find it a bind to manually increase speed and then have to set the cruise!!!!

Hold down set to increase speed, hold Res to reduce. You are not thinking that the up and down arrows on the uper lft side are the increase / decrease for the cruise are you ?

yeah cos its got 'mode' beneath it, am i missing something?

aha.. that is mode to select radio or CD magazine on the RR radio. The up and down above is radio tuning or next song on cd, depending on what MODE you are in.

thats ****!!! i thought i could drive with my finger tips!!!! now i'll have to pay attention and drive properly!!!

can i increase speed by pressing set? and decrease by pressing res then?

i think i might have to reinstall the original cd system if i can find one!!
thats soo un thoughtful of landrover, they confuse idiots by giving then too many gadgets!! at least it isnt broke then!!!

does it say mode on the original cos it says source on my alpine head unit to change between radio, tape(whatever they are) and cd changer

It's the only reason I kept the standard head in my RR.

Does anyone do a conversion box that sits in the line and makes the buttons work with other heads, maybe heads with MP3/usb connectivity ?
