I've just tried a search I posted a photo when I had a problem with the power to the odb plug on the petrol aka Black bastid, don't know if it showed the connector, luckily I found the broken brown wire just before it passed through the bulkhead

many thks, alas just the case of finding out what that connector is, ie part of the engine loom

as from the description is sounds like a major connector from the fuse box and through the bulkhead and is a big round one sitting underneath the expansion tank

assume it’s also a petrol , is that the 4.6 gems plse

annoying I can’t get rave , thanks so much

Found the photo it was in July 2020:eek: didn't show the connector:( which is between the fusebox and where the loom passes through the bulkhead.;)

many thks for looking , so it’s an intermediate connector then, as in doesn’t connect to the fuse box

assume the expansion tank is right next to the fuse box and that round connector is underneath it

thks so much and sorry for all the questions, am abit like a dog with a bone in finding things , lol

is extremely appreciated in the assistance with this and fingers crossed can find it

What do u think , is this the large round plug plse , thks

I think that's it, you'll never guess,I can't open the attachment I keep getting error message.i zoomed in on the small photo.:D:D managed to open it and yes that's the one.:D:D

just reloaded the pictures

Awesome, thks so much for assisting , so I think if the connectors can’t be found will have to be a second hand loom , however need to get the part number first, lol

Know I keep saying it , but thks again for all ur help

Yer gstuart that’s the pin connector I cleaned up then after that not starting I will have to remove the fuse box again and check all the wires under that especially the one that goes to the ecu fitted to the bulkhead must have blown something are you fitting a whole new loom to yours then

hiya

so after a lot of searching as of yet I can’t find the connector , however I’ve managed to find a loom for u just in case , as in u could take off the connector, maybe urs has a bad pin etc

here’s the link

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193441918226?hash=item2d0a096d12:g:5mkAAOSwW8JeqFTy

no, I’ve got a discovery 3, was just searching for ur goodself as I was looking at parts and noticed ur thread and thought it wouldn’t hurt to see if I could help by trying to find the connector in question for u

so I’m not being able to find a connector on its own thought that maybe a loom maybe useful to u

when u took the connector off was the battery disconnected , if not could u have blown something , ie, Ecu, fuse

know the feeling of trying to find errors , had to trace a few electrical gremlins on mine, had to use clamp and multimeter to trace it, sorry I’m waffling again

also ref the connector , one thing I found that helped , using a multimeter, with the battery disconnected , set to ohms or continuity , use a test probe on both sides of the re assembled connector , that way ur be able to test to ensure there’s continuity from one side of the connector to the other

if that’s all ok indeed test each and every fuse but I bet it’s just that connector where you’ve taken it apart that maybe a pim has been pushed back, but u multimeter or even using a test light will ensure it’s ok or not

hope that makes sense , plus few piccies of the bits I got when doing mine

Hope that helps and plse let us know how I get on or if u get stuck

Also forgot , I got a set of dental picks, found them perfect for cleaning up electrical pins, along with a can of electrical cleaning spray

this was something like I got, as u can get right into the back of the connector and it’s pins

silly question, what is the point in the plug other than to aid assembly at the factory? if its poorly, can it be cut out and the wires soldered?

Yer I did that with the white connectors in the foot wells but not going anywhere near that big black connector right here’s progress report had plug back off again blew out with airline reconnect left battery on charge all night gone out this morning reconnect battery and the old dog sprang into life again not checked nanocom to ecu yet but will later when I do live readings for the air con clutch problem

Thanks for your help gstuart I don’t need a new loom thank god

ur so welcome mate , plus am well pleased for u it’s back up and running

know they can throw there dummy out , including where connectors not having power on both sides and throws up a xmas tree dashboard of lights , took me nearly a year sorting out all the bodges on my discovery 3

happy days and once again glad it helped and always a team forum effort

good result And breath again:D

You know it this project of mine is none stop one repair after the other the trouble is what we often forget is most of these vehicles are 20 years old and any little niggels we find need renewing and hopefully they last a few more years

Land rovers are actually really good reliable cars, you can advise them and not service/maintain them for years, then one day everything falls to manure and it costs a bomb to put right
