hope its ok to post here but If anyone is interested i found a faultmate MSV2 for sale on ebay which has a licence for a a P38 so it would cost 50 euros to transfer the licence as i checked with Black box solutions, it can be transferred to other vehicles but as an example an l322 would cost 561 euros, not sure if that includes vat but i bought an MSV2 extreme last month and transferred it to me which was massively cheaper than buying a new one as it already had a licence for an l322
i have no connection with the seller but know its a great bit of kit which don't come up for sale very often
Please email black box solutions before parting with any cash to double check what i have put here for your own peace of mind

Great bit of kit true but far to expensive to licence for different vehicles and VIN locked. Better off with Nanocom for the P38. There is only one thing the MSV2 will do the Nano won't that is unlock the BECM and you need a special module to do that which costs a few bob.

i got this from Jason at BBS, who i must say have been fantastic as far as support for my extreme changeover and every little niggle i had when first using was answered in the instructions so havent had to use the support forum once,
anyway email below so echoing what you both say and again i have no interest in the company other than i think they make some brilliant kit

I have just had a quick scan through our emails and with you looking to buy another diagnostic tool for your P38 may I suggest our Nanocom Evolution, this tool is multi vehicle, costing around a similar price for a second hand MSV-2, coverage equal to the MSV-2 for Legacy vehicles (P38, Discovery II, Defender and Puma).
The Nanocom is sold as a kit for one vehicle model and unlock codes or leads can be bought from our website.
Try the emulator to see how easy this tool is to use (link below).

There are 3 engine variations of the P38, you should choose the correct kit for your vehicle.
NCOM04 for Discovery II Motronic Petrol V8 Kit 299.00 EUR
NCOM05 for Range Rover P38 GEMS Kit (Petrol up to 1999) 299.00 EUR
NCOM06 for Bosch EDC Diesel P38 Kit 299.00 EUR

To expand to cover any or all the other P38 engine types :

NCOM15 - Unlock code for Motronic V8 engine management 49.00 EUR
NCOM17 - Unlock code for GEMS engine management 49.00 EUR
NCOM18 - Unlock code for EDC (Diesel) engine management 49.00 EUR

Accessories and additional lead you may consider:
NCOM30 Nanocom Evolution Dash/Window mount kit 23.05 EUR
NCOM25 NANOCOM Evolution Left hand Angle extension lead 19.00 EUR or
NCOM26 NANOCOM Evolution Right hand Angle extension lead 19.00 EUR

Here is a link to our shop, documentation and directions to our Nanocom emulator. Nanocom owners have access to our support forums where questions can be posted and information can be found.

Home Page (select Emulator or Downloads for detailed ECU documentation and manuals)

For £25 quid though ...

Does it do much more than the Nanocom other than unlock the BECM? Guess that's a question for Datatek!
If the Nanocom had been around, I would have bought it in preference to the Faultmate. The SM035 direct access module for the Faultmate to unlock the BECM among other things is about £700 last time I looked.
The only real advantage of the Faulmate over the Nanocom is that you can use a laptop to get a large display, useful for us oldies. Against that you have to set the fact that the basic Faultmate is VIN locked whereas the Nanocom is not. An unlocked Faultmate is very pricey:eek:

Tw@t: Doesn't post to Scottish Highlands, not so royal mail do actually still go there for same price:mad:

Luckily I've got a Lynx (£240) covering all P38's, not locked to anything and with a nice big screen, that being a laptop used for RSW EAS Unlock suite aswell

Maybe not for much longer:rolleyes:

Say's reserve not met at £25.00 hardly surprising. But wonder what his reserve is? It has to be a lot less that the price of a Nanocom. Then there is the VIN change to pay for.

Bl@@dy RFrendummy uninformed thick cant/don't think yes voters:mad2::mad2::mad2:

That's my morning steam release over:)

Hope you lads and lasses don't leave the UK but if you do good luck think you may need it with your prick of a leader at the helm. Reminds me of Para Handy.:D:D

it was originally selling for £100 but in the listing it basically said it would work with all the different models and the p38 but i mentioned to him about the admin charge in case he sold it and then got in trouble for not mentioning it so he changed the ad and after doing that the £100 bid disappeared and it was showing as £25 reserve not met.

The admin charges are below and i THINK the way it works is 50 euros changing the vin only and keeping the same vehicle type and to change to a different vehicle, you pay the price shown minus 50% of the original license.

Even if he was an altruistic saint, what about his successor, or the one after that? Just another layer of useless middle-management.

i think the only winner for a yes vote would be one mans ego, its not like they have it bad in scotland as it is compared to england and i dont think that if they do go for a yes vote all of a sudden the scottish govenment is going to give a $h1T any more than any other democratic governemnt that has to balance the books, at least at the moment the scottish government can make decisions about how they run scotland but dont have to pay for it all, should i shut up now..........

thats my 2 english pennys worth
