My TD4 SE manual gets about 29 MPG, around Cornwall A and B roads. Get it on the motorway, and it'll do about 36 MPG.
What were you expecting? It's a 2 ton brick shaped vehicle, so I think it's ok on economy.

Seem its right then. I expected bout 34 same as my sportage & vivaro van did.
The Sportage is considerably (around 300kg) lighter than the FL2, if it's the FWD version, the AWD version, is about 150 kgs less.
The Freelander isn't bad on fuel for what it is, but it is big and heavy, which hurts MPG, especially in town driving, where stop start diving is being done, or there are lots of hills in the countryside.
Get it on a nice flat 60 MPH road, and it'll be returning low 40s, or mid to high 30s cruising on the motorway. ;)

Yeh. & i did consider the fact i live in sheffield. Maybe the hillyist city in the country.lol.
Best car iv had tho. Love it.

Short runs in the winter kill the mpg. But long motorway runs in hot weather even with the air con on full, is right in its comfort zone as long as you resist the temptation to floor it. As Nodges says its a 2 ton brick.

My FL2, which has over 203,000 miles on the clock averages 32.7 mpg. I reset it every time I fill the tank as any drop in mpg may indicate a problem with the vehicle.
But.
Bowling down the M6 at a steady 50mph where there were roadworks and average speed cameras, it returned 40mpg easily. Tip. Under those condition knock it into Manual mode and push it into 6th gear.
Pretty much the same if you can maintain a steady 55~60 mph on 'A' roads. Put it in Manual and try and keep your revs below 1,800.
On 'B' roads put it in Sport mode, drive like a tit, and you'll get 25~27 mpg or worse.

Shell Ultra (or whatever they call the more expensive stuff these days) does return better mpg, but not enough to compensate for the extra cost. I sometimes put a tankful in for a long journey in the belief it can't do any harm and might do some good.

I've only had mine a couple of months but I get mid ish 30s from general driving. Did manage to get mid 40s on a country (50mph) run though
