Been offered a 1986 Land Rover 90 with a 200TDi fitted, what MPG should I expect.
It will be used mainly on the motorway 230 miles return, with around 50 miles of running around during the week.
I think it has LT77 box, standard t-box and 235 16 road bias tyres...

Any ideas what oney i should pay for the vehicle, no tax or mot. failed on small jobs, is standard apart from a full external roll cage which is showing its age...

You should get 30 mpg, fairly easily.

What you should pay...how long's a piece of string???

Mainly kinda depends on the state of the chassis, but i#d say if it's really good it could go for £2K+, if it's really bad it could go for £500!

It needs one small plate on the chassis, rear axle brake pipes, and some bulbs for the test. body cappings could do with a tidy. the paint work looks shabby. The main reason Im looking is my series 1 is not liking the motorway distance or speed. the buyer muttered £1000 so i think i will go in low wit £600... and see if he falls over i know its too little.

Don't sound too bad, speshly if yer get it for £600! Pay loadsa attention to the chassis though!!! If it needs a little patch is that a sign of things to come?

However good it is it still won't ever be a good motorway car!

Yeah, but that's like saying Pol Pot was "better" than Genghis Khan coz he was better at knitting! If it's just motorway miles, and you already have loads of landys, if it has to be a landy why not think about a disco?

Got one,its the wifes run around. This other vehicle will be abused occasionaly on salisbury plain with a fellow group of squaddies so the full roll cage is what has drawn me to it. Plus its sat unloved since november wanting a new owner.

Get it as cheap as you can it'll no doubt need way more doing to it than you initially think. With no MOT or tax and therefore no chance of a proper test drive I reckon 600 quid would be enough.

Road test wont be a problem as I can take it onto the training area for a full functional test and put it thru my inspection bloke for a true reflection of the vehicle. I take it £600 isnt to much of an insult then, maybe a bit lower to allow me to raise my offer.
