Without wanting to patronise you or anything but most traffic officers don't know this, Did you know there is a big difference between the lighting regs for towing a broken down vehicle and those of towing a trailer. I have been ticketed 6 times for the same offence by traffic officers that didn't know. Every time it eventually gets dropped with not so much as an apology.

sorry to change the subject ! can you tell me what the regs are for police cars when responding to a call with sirens and lights on ?? in respect to speed limits do you have to respect the road speed,s that your travelling on or can you travel as fast, as it is safe to do so

I know what you mean, usually though it's a non-traffic officer who has pulled a vehicle cos he was bored and then doesn't know what he is really looking for.

I'm a Class 1 HGV driver(don't like this C+CE stuff) from my days in the RAF, and even though we were exempt from tachos still had to know how to use them, which does give me an advantage, it's easier with digital tachos now on newer motors but have had to assist others with this a few times.

In basic terms, take too long otherwise,

It all depends on the response rating on your driving authorisation, basic drivers should only respond to incidents on blues and twos that merit an immediate response and then should pretty much stick to the rules of the road within reason taking all reasonable care in the process, speed limits can be exceeded again only where necessary and your actions have to be explained and justified if it all goes horribly wrong.

Pursuit trained drivers in a suitable(high performance traffic) vehicle can drive in the manner and speeds necessary to effect a suitable response to an emergency or to effect an end to a pursuit.
