mpg calculations

thanks as always, it looks as though 30mpg is the average figure.

im running the tank down at the moment from about 1/4 of a tank, as i wish to virtually empty it so i can start by seeing how much it costs to fill up the tank then i can get an accurate mpg reading.

i was wondering that i could put the mpg readings on here before the mods and after if people wish me to.

was going to do it in stages,

1) with no mods
2) crankcase bmw mod fitted
3) EGR bypass
4) synergy fitted and the settings.

as i didnt know by me putting on the mpg readings if it may help anyone else or do you think it wil be of no use.

dont drain your tank down, itll suck up the cr*p in the bottom of tank ,clog your filter and everything after that

im about the replace the fuel filter as im soon doing a full service on the freelander

ive now run the freelander down to where the low fuel light is flickering.

the other day i put in 29.87 litres at £1.339 per litre and covered 210 miles, this was motorway speeds between 70-80mph.

i think thats around a return of 30mpg, but i will get a far more accurate reading once i brim the tank.

hi gary,

you can fill the tank back up at any time.

fill the tank till the pump cuts out first time, write down the mileage, or reset trip counter

then drive until it has used 1/4 tank, 1/2 tank or 3/4 tank whatever.

refill tank up till pump cuts out first time again. Make sure you get VAT receipt as it shows how many litres purchased. Then divide the number of litres by 4.54 to give gallons.

you then know how many gallons used and mileage covered and away you go.

I always write the mileage on the receipt when I fill up, then I have a record. (keeps tax man happy too).

I never ever let my tank go lower than a 1/4. Owing to a throwback of my company car days, really religious about mileage and mpg calcs. method above always works, even if you've only used a gallon.

thanks for the info, im really sorry being so dense but instead of running it down to different intervals and save me waiting could i do the following

brim the tank, go then about 50 miles then brim the tank up again.

note the litres on the first fill and again on the second fill up, take away the difference then convert the litres to gallons and divide it into the mileage

again my apolgies but stuggle getting my head round this sometimes

plus this may sound really daft but since ive had my engine oil and filter replaced it turns over alot faster on starting and seems a bit more responsive

just interested in seeing what the mods will do in the way of mpg etc, plus been reading about the fortes advanced additive opposed to the millers

Filled today, using the above shows I averaged 35mpg (TD4 HSE 05)

Your real MPG average is 31.96, covering 210 miles using 6.57 gallons of fuel. Just a smidge over 19p a mile which is good for a TD4 auto.

thanks, im pretty please with the mpg as when i bought it i thought i would get around 25mpg, sp 30,pg is a real bonus,hopefully once ive done the mods and fitted the synergy i may be able to get a bit more.

plus i think 20p a mile is very good considering its a 2 litre turbo diesel and aerodynamics of a house brick.

i wonder if the 2.2 litre engine in the freelander 2 get alot more to the gallon, i imagine it would due to the advance in engine technology
