Hi,

I'm soon going to be looking at changing car. I hope to chop the P38 in against the next model. The question is whether I should look for a low mileage but slightly older or one that is less than 5 years but may have a higher mileage. There seems to be quite a few around but have a higher mileage.

I'll be looking at a petrol model with the view to convert to lpg.

Is this model more reliable then the P38?

What areas are there to look out for?

Cheers

Chris

where do you start electrics, eas pump failures no rebuild kits yet?! suspension bushs rear hub carriers, front link arms inner and outer steering ball joints, gearbox failure on early models, diff failures too some still out there!
seat cushions heat elemets, heated steering wheel, electric colum failure, radiators leaking water pump failure and thermostates.
dash pixal display failure, keys,
on gas conversions the early bmw can be done the latter 2005 is a jag engine which is not as easy and needs a special ecu to control the gas and mimic the petrol ecu.
also breather valve failure on the later jag engines and the lambda sensors too

make sure it has some history and a dam good inspection before buying and a very good warranty as you may need it ensure all areas of coverage

guy i know has a 52 plate, bought it new and has had nothing but problems with it, last thing to go was gearbox, sitting down.......4k, ouch!
He always says he wishes he stuck with his p38.
How about new disco? only hear good things about that.

On balance then not a lot better than the P38...
