Climbed in my Defender (110 SW) yesterday and noticed what looked liked brownish blemishes on the front headlining. At first I though they were dried water marks from muddy water after a greenlaning (with my window open) but the more I looked at them I realised they were a form of mould.

They headlining was dry to the the touch and I can only assume the wet/dampness is on the side of the roof lining which faces the roof. Interestingly, it's only the front section of the roof lining.

Until I take the roof lining down (don't know how easy that is?) I won't know for certain why it is getting so wet so as to cause mould. THe only thing I can think of is that the seam which crosses the cab section of the roof is leaking.

If it is the roof seam what's the best way of fixing it? Presumably some form of sealant? I'm hoping that I won't have to split the current seam and clean up the joint before anything works successfully.

Any thoughts?

It doesn't have to leak to get wet. They're notorious for condensation forming on the inside of the roof, I've had mine literally running with water before. Glueing some camping mat directly to the roof should help

Were you able to refit the roof lining OK once the camping mat was fitted?
