Motorway cruising?

Nice, relaxed 160 mile round trip over the M62 to Yorkshire and back. At 65-70 mph, the rumbling from the rear of the Disco disappeared. No props with the long hills. Fuel usage didn't seem horrendous to me either.

Diff.

Cruising at 85 in a puma, nudging the engine limiter, is tiring. Did London to South France and it was exhausting. Lots of noise, windows open because of heat from gearbox and sun. Pity about the limiter as she still has more power and only up to 2,200 rpm in 6th.

Two years ago I was on the de-restricted autoban heading for the black forest area, stayed at 100-110mph for 10 mins or so, my rev limiter cut in on the down hill bits as I was heading for 120 on the clock, and I was being passed by most saloon cars, must get a faster car I thought :)

I have often used my TD5 for trips up and down the M6. Cruising at 60 is a doddle and not at all strained. At 70, there's a little more noise (turn the radio up) but still all in control. At 80, things are a bit strained, the car is saying "Whaddya think I am, a Merc?" You need some Led Zep on the stereo, but it'll do it. Upwards of that is territory that can be reached, but best not to go there.

At 60 the MPG is pretty good, I estimate better than 30mpg. At 70, something less than 30mpg and at 80, well if you're in a hurry, okay, but there's a price to pay.
