Hello all, I am finally nearly ready to risk an MOT on my 88", just about to weld a little patch and run a bit of weld along a crack in the weld in the corner of the chassis crossmember, (I think second from front, the curved one without the hole!), however, said crossmember has a big dent in the front edge, which obviously caused the crack in the weld, but it hasn't affected the back edge at all, a bit like this, sorry, I've got no digital camera, it is still rock solid, just wondering if anyone has a clue whether it will pass an mot or not?

_________front_____ __________x- split weld here

what is this bollocks picture? it looked right when i posted it, then not when I viewed it, then right again when I tried to edit it, hopefully you'll get the idea! I was going to say get the picture, but obviously it wouldn't be funny.

save the image and mark an X where the damage is using ms paint

If its on a structural part or close too it'll fail, or it should do if the geyser testing it see's it which they often dont.

If you decide to weld the crack in the previous weld, grind out the old weld first, weld on weld is not strong unless your an asme welder, and the mot geyser wont like it.

Plenty of black caky gobo over everything sometimes helps you get away with allsorts, if you want to get away with it that is.

Hello, I marked that picture with an X in paint, how do I put it on here? I am useless. I'll gobo goo anything that doesn't look too important, until I get a shiny new chassis.

ah the bell housing cross member :)

grind the old weld off and run a new line across it

i very much doubt a tester would fail it as its more than 12" from a structural point (closest is the spring hanger) but its better to be safe than sorry
