I bet that would be nearly half the price at some places just for the spring mount fixing. And no iv not welded before - thaught bout it but think it's best left to a professional welder. Especially when I have my girlfriend/kids in the back!

Mig welder from ebay, it's a second hand Clarke jobber originally from Machine Mart. A decent angle grinder is a must to, I burned out three cheapo Machine Mart ones but I've got a Bosch one now that's pretty good

Nice work did you do a welding course or practice at home? A handy skill to have after today's experience!

Practice at home, get yourself a load of scrap steel and have a play also an automatic dimming welding mask is a must.

When I first got my tratter the near side foot well was shot so that was the first thing, since then I've done the off side foot well all the spring hangers and rotten chassis areas around them the front of the chassis where the bumper attaches and the engine mounts when I swapped from a 19j to a 300tdi

Thanks I'm going to do a bit of welding research.
 
Keep a look out for a gas one ideally, mines gasless and spatters a lot. I keep meaning to buy a gas conversion for it but I haven't got around to it yet. Also I think mine is a 105en model from Machine Mart and I wish it was a bit more powerful like 130 amps but there's plenty of advive on here as to what to look for. Mine has paid for itself many times over and is very handy to have sat in the shed.
 
Well a top bloke has sorted out the lot in one day I just got it back. He even argued with the test station to squease me in just before closing. Verry pleased and his welding is amazing.

If anyone wants a great cheap landrover enthusiast welder in Leeds/Bradford let me know and I'll point you in the right direction. He didn't stop all day to get it all sorted!

He took the mounts off and cut out the rot and plated it almost seamlessly on both sides, looks like new now!

All his welding is superb to be honest. Feel very happy about it now it all got sorted early before it spread. I think the tester must have gon over chassais with a screwdriver and hammer.

Testers use a small hammer and listen to the tone of the metal, but the one's I know fish out the big screwdriver when presented with a crud covered chassis.

Chassais looks good overall with small holes discovered my mot tester. The welder cut round them to get rust out then put solid plates over them and new holes for shock mounts. He did a top job on all the welding - I'd even say miles better than it looked like it needed.

His name is Rob at a garage on leeds/Bradford border If ever I need welding by a landrover enthusiast I'll be off to see him. Not just that but he sorted everything else out perfectly and cheap too - he is also a top guy.
