Hi everyone.
I've just joined so this is my first and maybe last post. I've only had my discovery a little over 5 months and put it in for its mot which it has failed big time. Apparently there's shed loads of welding to be done. It's R reg 2.5 TDI auto. I live in the Nottingham area and want to know I there's anyone out there who can do this for a reasonable price. I've been quoted far too much for me to afford and if I can't get it done will have to say goodbye. I've grown quite fond of him as we've had quite a few adventures already in a short space of time. Thanks for taking the time to read this, if you can help get in touch.

Welcome to the forum

Sadly disco's get eaten by tin worm. Ask for help in the disco section about welding and getting it fixed.

You need to find someone how knows, that can give you an realistic idea of what can be done long term, if you weld it up this year will you be in the same place next year with another lot of welding to be done, this will depend on where the welding is needed, I had a early sierra which I loved it had been around the clock 2/3 times it had a 2.3L diesel and just run and run , I got it cheap because it needed welding, I spend the all one Christmas welding , the next Christmas the same after the third Christmas I took it for the mot and the tester said he would give me the MOT for effort but did not want to see it next year sometimes you must admit you can not win, with a Landrover it is different because the chassis can be changed and all the rest can be fixed but at what cost?

Thanks that's sound advice, welders seem to be thin on the ground when you need them. I would like to get it roadworthy again but have to get a good deal with the welding.

depends what needs to be done. Do you have an itemised list?
Here's the list of welding.

1. Nearside front lower (b post corroded)

2. Body or chassis has extensive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30 cm of the body mountings Central rear lower

3.Body or chassis is damaged, affecting its strength within 30 cm's of the body mountings Offside front lower

4. Body or chassis is damaged, affecting its strength within 30 cm if body mountings Central front lower (from b post lower)

5 Body has a projection caused by corrosion Offside rear ( o / s / r corroded)

Not wishing to scare you, but it sadly may be a case of when you start stripping to get at the areas that require welding, you will find more ..and more ..and.........well you get where I am going with this. :p

I started stripping my fathers 300tdi, as it failed on a few silly things plus some welding. When I stripped the interior I found the "failed" points were not even the start of the issues for what I felt comfortable to be driven by a member of the family. Decided it was better to keep it as psares for the other vehicles we have.

The list of what yours failed on this Year may only the the tip of the iceberg once you start delving deeper. But , there is only one way to find out and that is to start looking. Plus, what did it fail on? as MHM says do you have an itemised list?

EDIT: you beat me with the list by a minute...LOL

Good luck.

Cheers
