I'm going for a MOT next week, it's my first time. I'm kind of worried about some problems I see in my car. First, the rear wiper and window don't work. Will it result to a failed MOT? What might be the problem? I checked the fuses and they are not busted. The rear window keeps on going down and won't remain on top, so what I did was remove the fuse as soon as the window reaches the top. Second, there is a slight crack in the passenger side mirror, wiit it be a cause for failure? thanks a lot. Hope you guys can give me additonal tips about MOT. thanks

only thing checked at rear door area is that it opens and shuts and is secure when closed, crack in mirror glass is ok aslong as rear vision is not impaired (so it would have to be smashed or have loads of cracks to fail) oops just reread the post, only reqiure 2 out of 3 mirrors to in full working order and one of those has to be the drivers door

Isnt there something about 'must not be a danger to pedestrians or other motorists'...they might sugest it has potential to fall out at speed blah blah. Buy a stick on replacement to cover it, for the sake of £10

The mirror only fails if the mirror backing is broken and has sharp edges of the plastic casing. The glass should be ok aslong as its just a crack but to pass mot you need two mirrors and one has to be the drivers one as stig mentioned

on the freelander doesnt the window when in the very upmost position keep the tailgate from opening though?? i very much doubt your mot man will try and open the boot but let the window down a crack just incase, can yer confirm what i just pointed out stiggy?

Window does not prevent door from opening! This is the job of the latch/lock.

Except on a gaylander I believe that when you lift the handle to open the door it drops the window slightly to allow the door to open. As he's taken the fuse out of the window motor this won't happen and either the door won't open or the hamfisted tester, knowing nothing about gaylanders will yank the door and smash the glass.

yeah window drops when opening back door best way is to check it opens and shuts without putting any strain on the glass

Yeah, if the window has had the fuse removed he should drop it a bit so that the tester can open the door without it fouling on the window. However, it was RAZ8550TDI's statement that the window keeps the tailgate from opening that I was referring to!

thank you red:D

is this a hardback/softback?? if so check the switch in the rear offside behind the fog light as this will stop the window from working and switches off the rear wiper too - it's probably failed and thinks the back has been removed:)
