Back to this thread on the MOT failure, specifically the fog light problem.
I was rummaging around behind the fascia switches (what a pain to get to), I took the entire rear fog light switch out and there are 2 little bulbs (orange and green) mounted through the side onto a printed circuit.
In fact all the switches have the same 2 bulbs mounted in the same fashion. Although the connectors seem to be slightly different in an attempt to stop you swapping them about despite being colour coded........
I took the bulbs out and suspect a dirty connection between the bulb itself and the printed circuit. Scrubbed up with some very fine abrasive and gave a squirt of Servisol.
Hey presto all is now ok.
However, I did notice something that gets me thinking...........
The rear fog lights only switch on when the fronts are on. When you have both on and switch the fronts off the rears go off too. So switching the rears on alone and nothing happens, wheras the fronts alone are fine.
To me that makes sense and is probably a sensible design feature. All cars are probably the same and it is just that I have never noticed....... I never drive in fog me.... ;-)
I wonder if the MOT failure was due to an equally unaware MOT tester. Hmmmm.
