Hello.

It opens from the inside fine but fails from the outside. Will this effect the MOT? I have been told yes....but have read it would not as it is a rear door. As long as it is securely latched it is fine.

I've just asked the question to the MOT examiner I use and he said any door which fails to open from the outside results in a fail. Occupants can not be removed in the event of an accident.

Stupid in my view, with many self locking systems or people locking the door anyway would also inhibit rescue.

This is the rejections MOT manual states which you can download.

driver’s or front passenger’s door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle using the relevant control in each case.

a passenger door cannot be opened from outside the vehicle using the relevant control.

Also all Land Rover products fitted as standard with central locking are fitted with crash sensor, so unlocking if locked, in the event of an accident

so if there are seats in the boot its a fail?

Here's a thought...mend the door before going for the test. Could just be the handle sticking. Prise off the green oval on the handle surround and apply lubricant.

Or fix whatever else is wrong. Then, you get an MOT and a working back door. What's not to like?

Balls. Need to do the spring fix on my nearsise back door. It opens fine once the catch it lifted on the inside but of the tester locks it it'll need the catch lifting again.

That's almost certainly the problem. All sorts of gunge gets sprayed up on the hinge and it sticks. When you have the LR badge off you can see what's going on and work the handle up & down till it frees off.

Thanks folks. Thanks CC I can try the leave it unlocked trick. Once the catch is up it opens fine. I heard getting to the locking mech is a pain.

The rear door pin doesn't hit the parcel shelf does it. That's what mine was doing so I bent the parcel shelf up and it worked fine. Basicly once it was unlocked if you shut the rear door the pin would catch.

It's not the rear door dan it's the rear passenger door. I'll try and get it fixed then. :) Just a shame as that door is never used so would have left it be.and saved some time money.

I just had the boot door spring problem on mine, after a lot of frustration replacing it and putting all the push rods back in place with my sausage fingers i noticed somehow the key no longer turns anything. :( So ive got to rip it all apart again to see whats broken now! haha
