Yes that is correct! aparently you can wiggle it violentley and it pops off again also does not always lock(sticky button) and it has no spare travel (needs a little adjustment)

Have you sorted your handbrake?

I had mine go like that the other day, I took it off dismantled the handle and put a slight bend back into the metal bar inside that activates the ratchet - this fixed it.
I think my mate was a bit heavy handed when we did the clutch the other day and broke it!

Yes I think so, I adjusted to so it comes on much sooner and used WD40 on the button so it is a bit more free, I have not had a problem with it, I am sure if I had I would have known about it as I would have found the care moving down hill whenever I park it!

My 200 tdi is tested on a standard rolling road brake tester, the tester requests BOTH the gearbox AND the transfer box are in neutral, the handbrake is tested in the same manner. This way the propshafts can rotate independently, but not so on later models with vicous ect.

My car is also tested every six months (law in Spain for 'all terrain' vehicles that are old) and the procedure has never been any different.

5 mots in two and a half years and no problems?

Your tester was a lazy b*stard and should be reported!

regards

Dave
