Does anyone know the exact date at when the regulations came in about having to have CATS in the exhaust system, i believe it was in 1993 but i wondered if it was in a certain month it came into law? As i have a 93, registered in feb of 93 and was really hoping to get the CATS out without having to worry about them come MOT time

just had a look through the testers manual and it says 1st august 1992

Damn! I is it worth getting some tubular manifolds that bolt onto the origonal Y section with the CATS on then? so i can just bolt on the Y piece with them on for MOT time?

if you have it converted to gas then you don't need the cats as the vehicle is tested as presented and you have a 3.5% at idle gas co% test. if you don't have gas then you need to have it pass a bet test(basic emission test) which is 0.2% at 2,500-3,000 rpm then 0.5% at idle if you get past that then you do not need to use the cats.

if you are removing the cats and fitting a performance exhaust system then i would ditch the lambda sensors and fit a non cat tune resister and a full free flow system

Why do you want to get the 'cats' out, it aint gonna make a ****s worth of difference.

In the Disco manual there is a noticable difference in the mpg of the 3.5 with and without cats, of around 1-3 mpg i think, and on a truck that does about 16 thats a fair bit more, and i like the sound of an unresticted v8

In fact does the y pipe (from the headers to the centre section) from the 3.5 v8 that came without cats directly replace the later model that had the cats put on?

yes as some earlier models had that pipe fitted before the cats were fitted as standard
