Andrew,

Station Wagon got it's mot today, comes home tomorrow, looks fooking awesome :D

I thought about doing the pimping of the wagon next week, but it's still too cold, it's taken me 3 days to not bolt the high lift bracket to the roofrack, it's just stupidly cold outside, maybe week after next.

As for catching up, I can do it this weekend, we can meet at the pub again, just check with your dad and let me know the time.

Which bracket are you using, ive looked at a fiew, think i would bolt it to the roof above the back door, but im not sure if the roof would be strong enough there, Hi-Lifts arnt light. Also thinking about the bonnet in front of the spare, or maybe on the bull bars. Could also go on the rear cross member perhaps. i bought a poly hi-lift handle securing thing which is great if you havent got one already, and your banks are still letting you spend money.

I had it bolted to the roof above the back door, but that just about pulled out while laning, so now I've got a patriot bracket that bolts onto the rack itself

I have my hi lift mounted across rear crossmember, as said they are not light and keeps weight low down, its not something you use very often, I think I have had to use mine twice in 20 yrs . It pays to lube them every so often , eg after winter otherwise they can be a bit tempremental , you should be carrying a can of lube anyway. JMHO

Across the crossmember is ideal, but I have a nato hitch so that is out.

And of course I'm taking a can of lube, I'm hoping to meet some nice local women :hysterically_laughi

Temprimental describes mine well, its droped down a fiew times, cezes up constantly, will somtimes not latch the next step, and has fallen over with the defender on sevral times bending the tube in the rear cross member (despite also being chocked), and fallen over with a jaguar xj6 body on it almost crushing my arm if i hadent have moved from under it very very quickly. Dangerous doesent even begin to describe the Hi-Lift, its like a personal booby-trap that you set up for yourself.
:5brant:

Anyway, i was gona ask what you lube it with, presumbaly not one of Boogers exoticly flavoured ones. Was perhaps thinking 15W-40 why not, copper greace would get too grimey. I think they come dry dont they? Thats why ive never given it a lube job befor. You cna get a repair kit with new pins and springs, i might have to do that mine seems like it could be well gone.

Sweet theyll do just the job, ill put it in the cross member given all that has been discussed. I remember you had your hi-lift up high befor, but wasnt sure if it was on the roof or the rack. Also are you free sunday lunch time? Could meet up to discuss things.

Sunday lunch is good, just send me the time and place!

Fairly productive day, sorted out the mud console, just waiting for my 52mm holesaw, gauges, and 12v sockets to finish it off.

Sounds nice, what you got, battery gauges? I would like to put a rev counter and boost gauge in mine but there are other prioriteis. Will definitly put a volt meter in though, i have a 52mm hole where the clock was (the clock is now where the oil pressure gauge was), and with my battery switch i can then check the voltages individualy.

As for tommorow (or today i guess), is where we met befor alright? Saves any complications, ill say 1 pm, phone my home number if you want to change the time/place. Ive just got back from work so i will be sleeping in till then. :D

1pm is good, see you then.

I've gone for oil temp, oil pressure, and turbo. At some stage I'll put in a rev counter in the main instrument pod, and replace the water temp gauge with one that has actual temps, but the money is running low so that will probably have to wait till we get back :D

My split charge has a funky digital display, so I don't really need volt gauges, which is a shame cause they are pretty :p

Just getting Kai to fabricate one out of mild steel. More a welding exercise than anything else but how hard can it be?

Make POD.... punch holes.... install ots of clocks...dials...switches and anything else you can think of...and enjoy!

Thats a thought, might give that ago myself now ive had abit of practice with the mig. When i weld somthing like that though, its usually warped by the time ive finished from the heat.

It wood be fooking hard if you didn't know how to weld, like me :) A welded up one would look more authentic and cooler, post some pics when he is done ;)

Simon and i made some good progress on the landrover today, but found more bad stuff than what we fixed. basicly the rear cross member consisted of a fiew layers of paint holding rust together, so weve rebuilt the lower side of that with angle iron. Nice and strong now and looks good. Got another plate on the suspension too, will weld on the spring seet soon. Found a big hole in another cross member though, in front of the tank, but there like ice burgs, you can only see 10% of it. No doubt more fun fabrication ahead. This chassis :censored:. Never mind, im gona get some big bits of steel and beef the hell out of it for the trip, it will be back to streangh once ive finished patching it, but just to be sure :D. I will re build it into a nice landy when we got back, will have space too with the move.
