More Power required ! ??

Hi all,

I have a 90 300Tdi &
slowly working through it and I need more power due to regular heavy trailer work.

My theory is bigger Intercooler & Bigger Turbo (Ykk or similiar) ! :eek: Am I on the right lines or is there something else I should be looking at ?

As storm says v8, or you could get a large intercooler and tweak the fuel pump and increase boost by extending the turbo actuator rod but at the end of the day it's only a 2.5 doozle your not going to gain a lot and if ya do go to far you will stress the engine to much and blow it, on the other hand you could trade it in for a td5 and get that chipped and all the other bits done, at the end of the day it's down to how much money you want to throw at it
 
My Boss's chipped TD5 is pretty nippy but not so good pulling a load. I reckon my old 300TDi Disco was better with a couple of ton behind it. And Scratchy (Disco 200TDi in a 110) has had the fuel pump tweaked and still goes well with a ton and a bit (that's not overloaded, is it) on the back, albeit with clouds of black smoke! Cough cough...
 
Thanks :) Not looking for silly power just giving a little more & V8 is just not economic ! I use it as a toy and love it to bits but for example last weekend trailer had a weighed 3 ton of logs up plus the Ivor Williams & STILL NO SMOKE !!!:eek:
 
But be careful, towing that load and tweaking the pump could lead to a damaged engine, it's bad enough when people do it and don't then tow 3 tons.
