Not only is my 300tdi pulling to the left i noticed today a rough grumbly sound when full lock to the left. I had a look and some of the grease in the swival hub was seeping out the seal. (I replaced the oil for grease months ago) Is it possible the wheel bearing? or something else?

Could be the CV joint as they will click or rumble on full lock.

jack up the front of the car and check wheels for play in case it is the wheel bearings which are under more load when cornering.

I had a wheel bearing collapse on the way to work the other day which caused the front wheel to lock solid for a few seconds. Managed to get it home slowly and without any sudden movements. When I stripped it I found the inner bearing race was shot to bits and had welded itself to the stub axle. Broke the rotten brake pipes while taking the caliper off too which didn't exactly cheer me up.

yeah think im going to get bits stripped down, i might get a wheel baring kit just incase so if it is i can at least do it there and then without waiting for parts. I just hope it will last a bit longer i work away so the missus will have to take it easy

just had a look on ebay i can get a wheel bearing kit and a new cv and kit for about £50 is there anything else i might need? i would rather get everything and just replace stuff now so its all done.

Cheers Dave ill save a few bob there! think i need to back off from ebay abit! god i might even do the other side lol. Cheers again

I'd be a little worried about swivel grease leaking out - are the swivel bearings ok? I had one collapse on a RRC some years ago and made the steering very interesting to say the least! They don't cost a lot (buy the kit with shims etc so you can set them properly afterward) so worth checking while you're at it. Have fun, Peter.

yeah im going to change them but to change the swival seal i take it you need to take off the actual swival its self!
