hi all, so my 2nd key..

will obviously open the doors via the lock..
will even start the car....

but WONT open via the button on the remote...

key 1 works fine..

any thoughts?

many thanks

hi guys.... presuming the battery is ok.. the red light flashes etc... i can easily change them though....
it's never worked ... i'm presuming it is synced to the car as it will start it. ?
how do i resync or check ?
its a genuine landrover key and says ket2 on the back sticker etc..

cheers

It's in the owners handbook.
Vehicles with passive immoblisation: Simply insert key in to the starter switch.
Without passive immobilisation: If vehicle is locked, press the unlock button on handset and then unlock vehicle using the key.
If the vehicle is unlocked, press the lock button on handset and then lock the vehicle using the key.
Make sure the batteries are good first.

Sometimes, after applying the EKA code, the becm dumps the fob code, hence the fobs won't work. To get around it you can have the passive immobiliser turned off to allow entry & starting with just the key.
You also need to keep in mind the scrupulous idiots that change the becm, ecu & locks thinking that they have solved a problem cheaply, when in fact, when things go wrong again the cost of putting everything right far outweighs the value of the car.

This also applies to the chaps who add key fobs, bought from fleabay, stating that they just need new batteries.

I've seen it all.

as ever.. many thanks....

turns out i was mistaken ( read wrong !)..
key 2 does NOT immobilise the car... i realised today that i tried to start the car with key 2 immediately after using key 1 ! ( so the immobiliser was already off ).. tried again today and the car will not start on key 2 alone..

not sure if this changes any of your thoughts / answers..

sorry

If you got it with the car and it's never worked, it's possible it's not the right FOB for the car.
Otherwise it could simply be it needs a resync.
Are you sure the other key is definately a Key #1? You cannot have 2 keys of the same number.

i guess it's possible...

the key(1).. that works has no numbers left on the back of the fob.. so not sure how to check...

key (2).. clearly says on the back.. the sticker looks new...

maybe i will just have to make sure i don't loose the 1 key !!

If you cannot sync it, it's possible the previous owner bought it on Ebay, it which case it will be impossible to sync it to your car.
If you had two key #2's when you synced one key the other would cease to work.
