Lock outs are one thing but I've only had the one key since I bought my P38 over a year ago so I thought I had better get a spare.

I talked to Westover land rover in Salisbury and they said they would order another key from RR, then I would have to go and collect it from them and they would sync it to the vehicle.

It turns out that I already had a 'number one key' and of course, the parts department had also ordered a number one key.

Apparently, you can't have two number ones, you should have ordered a number two or three, they said.

You should have asked, I said.

Anyway, according to them, RR don't send out number two or three or four keys anymore, they only send out number ones. This means that (according to Westovers) if I lose my number one key, I have to take my spare number one with the car to a dealer and have it re-synced.

Is this bollox or are RR upping the after sales torture another ratchet?

Keep smiling,
D

Total bollox you can sync a new key yourself. You can only have one key of each number.
If you lose you key, how will you take your car to the dealer to have it synced? It won't start with an unsynced key:rolleyes:

i just ordered a spare key myself as i only have one and the key i have is a 3... the fella at the parts dept asked me which number i had and it was my choice which number i ordered.....! obviously i ordered a 1 but i could of got any number apart from 3 as he is right you cant have the same number key.....!
also not been told about syncing new keys at the dealership.... we'll see wot happens...
my local RR dealer is Hunters in Kings Lynn and have two really nice blokes on the parts counter....

I used Stratstone's in Hainult., they advised only 4 keys can be cut/ synced, and you get 1 & 2 when the car rolls off the production line..... So keys 3 & 4 can only be ordered.
Mine took around a week, £135 -+ , I just put it in the ignition...... Synced....

Huf in Germany make the key fobs, as each key has to be programmed when made it makes no difference to them whether it is programmed as 1, 2, 3, or 4 so it is unlikely that only key 1 is being made, more likely the dealers can't be bother to specify so HUF make a key 1.

Any idea how to identify the number of the key if the stickers have come off? I presume I have key 1 and 2, but have no way of actually knowing. I guess I could program the seat memory say fully forward for mem 1, middle position for mem 2, set the seat fully back, super lock the car then unlock and see which position the seat moves to. But bit of a polarva!

But that would only tell you which key is set for seat position 1 or 2

I still have all my keys but one is faulty so i ordered the 3rd...

all my keys have a sticker on the back , with blurb plus the key number i.e Key 3

call up a Landrover dealer service dept. not rimmers that sell spares

I was under the impression that if the car is superlocked then unlocked with either key 1 or 2, the seat and mirror would move to the stored positions for mem 1 and mem 2 respectivly, and this cannot be changed, so key 1 will only activate mem 1 and key 2 mem 2? Right, wrong? Am I talking bollox? I thought this was how you automatically accessed the stored seat positions when unlocking the car and not having to press a seat memory button on entry? Using key 3 or 4 would have no effect on seat/mirror position.

:behindsofa:

Correct..That's how mine works. There are only two pre stored positions

Hi all,

So here's where I'm at... I called another dealer and they said "sure, no problem" so I asked them to call me back and confirm they could get me a number 3 or 4 key. They did and said yes they could do just that.

Then I called the original dealer who said they could only get a no.1 key from RR and asked them what is going on, I've just been told by another branch of your dealership that it's not a problem to get a no.3 key?

They said they would phone back. They did about three hours later and said the following...

RR have part numbers for keys 1 to 4 but part numbers for keys 2, 3 and 4 refer back to the part no.1. In other words, RR only do no.1 keys now.

So, I have two no.1 keys, one synced and one not.

Can I get a second hand key, get a new blade cut to match mine and then sync it?

Does anyone know?

More to the point, this is the second time this year that I've found RR are not making replacement parts for the P38. I wonder where it will end?

Presumably when we've all bought TATA's newest RR, the Evoque.

Bollox to 'em... Anybody fancy buying RR back?

I stand corrected, I did not realise there was a factory setting for seat positions. Sorry

right.... i think your dealer in Dorset is barking up the wrong tree...!!
i just got a call from hunters telling me that my key had arrived so i cam collect it anytime... while i was on the phone to them i mentioned your problem with being told that you could only get key 1 and they confirmed that this is not true.... in fact alan (parts man at hunters) said only last week he ordered a number three key for a customer...? with regards to part numbers... alan is going to explain to me when i go and get my new key the mistake your dealer is making when trying to order numbers 2,3and 4 key.....i'll let you know later...
also.... syncing the new key.... when you get a new key you should be given instructions on paper with the new key on how to sync it to your car......
seems like the parts people there are not very knowledgeable....!!!
