More advice needed on tyres

Thank you for all your replies to my earlier post. I would like the BFG's but they're out of my budget at the moment.
Have been offered some discounted Maxxis Bighorn 285/75 x 16. Firstly will they fit on my 16" x 7" rims (the dealer says yes but better to check with the experts) & let me turn corners?

oops...... and secondly anyone got any experience of them, grip, noise, wear life etc.
