Didn't want to hijack another thread..so opened this one.

Has anyone used molly slip before?
I was talking to buckshot about it a few weeks back but as Im not using my 90 yet (still on SORN waiting for worst weather), i havent got round to buy it...

Out of nowhere my 90 decided to start making a whinning noise! (just my luck as I had the same with the disco and ended up with the transfer box blowing up!)

Anyway..before the summer all was fine, no noise, nothing at all.....then one day got in it and this whinning noise was there!! after being stoof for maybe a month or so....the noise didnt even start when i was driving, it was just there as soon as i started driving!

I changed all the oils for fresh stuff, gearbox, transfer box, diffs and engine oil...but the noise is still there!

Buck told me about the molly slip stuff, does anyone have experience with it?
how much should I chuck in the transfer box?

Also, I tried that test, puting the transfer box in neutral and going through the gears while accelarating and the noise aint there.... so its likely to be transfer box? whats your views?

fking thing!! I thought i had got rid of whinning noises when i sold the disco!

Moly is a rather odd product. You can buy it from Halfords or stock dealers or you can buy a different EU version on Ebay.

I bought off eBay and stufffed in my Jag XJ Diff, and it cured the whine and made all smooth.

That said, I dont think mere additives will cure a serious problem. But short term not a lot to loose. On eBay search for crewchief - they have all the Moly products and write ups.

I put some in my well nacked ford gearbox. hasn't helped at all, but then it is very ruined, gear teeth are worn rather than bearings. some people say it stops the synchro from working - it doesn't - and wouldn't matter anyway in a transfer box.

I put half a tube of molyslip in the ford box - about 2L.

Update on this one gents...

the stuff does work!!

ive poured some molyslip in the transfer box and diffs today, cant put any in the gearbox as it says not to be used with ATF...

the noise definately has gone down, all I can hear now is just from the gearbox, which is not too bad.

so if you have bad whinning noises, definately buy this stuff, it was worth it.
