Moisture sensor?

Hi,
I have a 2002 TD5, have been told that it is missing the moisture sensor near the fuel filter, but have also been told that they are no longer fitted..]

What does it do? Should it have one fitted? Are there any issues if not fitted?
 
It was removed onthe latest model from 2002 to 2004 it was no installed. It is used to see if there is any water in the deisel only really needeed if you was somewhere like affrica with poor quality fuel in the uk and eu it all has to meet strict standards.
 
Mine has a cable 'hanging' down near the fuel filter, should this have been removed when the filter was deleted?
 
My 2003 didnt have the sensor either but did have the cable. I changed the filter and fitted the sensor on monday and it all works. If you dont want the sensor just tie the cable up out of the way, it isnt really needed i just like to have all the dash lights working.
